Explore the natural beauty of Alentejo through its famous hiking trails. The Rota Vicentina is an extensive network of hiking and biking trails criss-crossing the region, including two long-distance walking paths and numerous circular tracks. The Fisherman’s Trail follows the coast and the Historical Way passes through the bottom of our valley, day trips can be arranged and you can also just walk from your door.

Alentejo is a cyclist’s paradise whether you’re looking for an easy ride or a challenging adventure. There are numerous circular routes and many kilometres of marked mountain biking trails for all abilities under the Rota Vicentina umbrella. There’s also a Touring Bike Trail along our coast, perfect for connecting Lisbon and Faro.

The Alentejo coastline is home to some of Portugal’s most beautiful beaches, perfect for both relaxation and water sports. There are surf schools and hire shops, bodyboard rental, stand-up paddle and boat tours or kayaking on the Mira River. The area offers stunning natural views and opportunities for water adventures in unspoiled settings.

Food lovers will delight in the region’s culinary offerings, which focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients. Alentejo’s traditional cuisine includes delicious seafood, locally sourced porco preto (black pork) and artisanal meats and cheeses. From charming seaside restaurants like O Sacas (where you find these dishes), to countryside eateries, the flavours of Alentejo will enhance your stay.

The region is dotted with picturesque towns, each with its own unique appeal. Explore the peaceful riverside town of Odemira, the cliffside beauty of Zambujeira do Mar with its tiny chapel, the Algarve’s Aljezur, or the coastal charm of Vila Nova de Milfontes. These towns offer a glimpse into Alentejo’s rich culture and provide welcoming atmospheres perfect for leisurely strolls and relaxing meals.

There’s a fabulous municipal market in Odemira and also in nearby São Teotónio which is open most mornings with an excellent butcher, baker, fishmonger and greengrocer.  There are also many regular weekly or monthly local markets which reflect the area’s authentic culture where you can sample fresh produce and regional crafts. Three large supermarkets are a short drive from Vale das Estrelas.
