Ana and Alastair Leithead Spross settled in this very special part of Portugal after spending years living and working across Asia, Africa and the Americas.
For Ana it’s a homecoming – her father’s family originates from the Alentejo – and she has returned after years travelling the world as a diplomat.
Alastair has spent nearly 20 years as a BBC foreign correspondent, covering stories across the globe, and is now a freelance writer and filmmaker, currently writing about Portuguese wine and chronicling their change of life through a blog while discovering Portugal with an outsider’s eyes.
Afraid they would miss the interesting people and stories they met around the world, Ana and Al are building a small off the grid bed and breakfast lodge to bring adventurous visitors to their door.
They are discovering Portuguese wines – especially those from the Alentejo – by creating a podcast on their journey from trying new grapes to learning how to grow them.
And they are learning to live in a remote and relatively unknown corner of Portugal.
